The Company
Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2, currently in Early Access. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences.
As a Character Artist at a mid-size independent studio, you’ll have a wide range of responsibilities from creating art, communicating with production, facilitating feedback, and working with other team members to execute the vision for the games we make.
Responsibilities
- See characters through from conception to completion.
- Produce high-quality 3D characters, weapons, and customization assets for AAA titles.
- Work closely with the Production, Environment, Animation, and other artists to bring the concepts to life.
- Plan, estimate and prioritize time frames for the completion of tasks while tracking progress.
- Collaborate with other artists to help define best practices and workflows.
- Help identify and fix bugs, including performance and budget issues.
- Implement and incorporate feedback from Director and Leads into work.
- Work with the team to achieve the desired level of aesthetic quality and technical targets.
- Participate in brainstorming and concept development sessions, contributing fresh ideas and innovative approaches.
Requirements
- An exceptional portfolio of work that exemplifies the creation of high-quality character art.
- 3+ years of professional game development experience.
- Experience developing AAA titles on PC and/or console.
- Expert knowledge of game character development processes, from sculpting to retopology, baking, UVs, texturing, etc.
- Strong awareness and execution of human anatomy.
- Basic understanding of rigging and skinning for animation.
- Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to provide an in-depth critique with visual observation skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Personally motivated, constructive energy.
- Ability to take on board leadership feedback and work accordingly.
- Experience with Unreal engine.
- Experience with Art production software such as Marvellous Designer, Zbrush, Maya or Max and Substance Painter.
- Note: a Senior level position is available for the right candidate.
