The library intern program is from May 21, 2026, through Saturday, August 29, 2026. To be eligible, applicants must be between 16 and 19 years old.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be between sixteen (16) and nineteen (19) years of age at the time of hire.
Due to the nature of this position, successful applicants who are eighteen (18) years or older are subject to a pre-employment background check.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Performs a variety of support tasks.
• Summer Reading sign-up by helping patrons.
• Empties book drops and soft carts.
• Sorts library materials on carts by call number.
• Shelves library materials in proper alphabetical or numerical order.
• "Shelf reads" to ensure materials are in proper order.
• Fills and processes hold requests.
• Searches for materials, as requested.
• Answers questions about basic library services.
• Checks in library materials.
• Shifts collection, when needed.
• Assist with Library programming and outreach.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
• Basic library processes
Skills and Abilities to:
• Operate a PC
• Perform alphabetical and numerical sorting and shelving using the Dewey Decimal System
• Operate Windows-based computer software programs
• Read, write, and communicate in English
• Understand, remember, and execute multi-step written and/or verbal instructions
• Concentrate and accomplish detail-oriented tasks
• Organize and prioritize work
• Perform repetitive work under general supervision
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily conducted in an indoor environment. Exposure to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, when emptying outside book drops. Significant standing and walking. Requires the ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach up to six feet (with or without a step stool), lift to 30 pounds, and push/pull a loaded shelving cart weighing up to 150 pounds.
PAID INTERN POSITIONS:
An “At Will”, FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
