Lead Environment Artist


Wolcen is searching for a Lead Environment Artist for its new work in progress titled ‘Gods, Death & Reapers. The role reports to our Senior Producer and you will be confident in leading a 9 strong Art team coming from different technical backgrounds as well as managing a very small outsourced team. A big portion of the role (70%) will be focused on team management, so it is essential that the person joining will know how to manage and give feedback efficiently and also how to transcribe the art direction of the game projects. Furthermore, we are looking for someone that will be actively involved in the projects, someone who is proactive, and who proposes solutions that fit our technical and production scopes and constraints.


This is a fully remote role, so you can be located anywhere in the European region.

 


Qualifications & Skills : 

  • Worked on one game that has been released as a lead environment artist or several games that have been released as a senior environment artist. 
  • You have previous experience working with various titles related to environments and/or coordinating various teams related to environment art (lighting artists, texture artist, level artist, props artist etc), managing different level of seniority and be hands-on in feedback the team’s work. 
  • Technical know-how within our technical constraints and safeguard the performance 
  • Confident with real-time editors like Unreal engine.
  • Familiar with procedural workflows like Houdini. Manage and plan tasks for procedural artists.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently, sharing updates on a regular basis.
  • Advanced English skills both written and spoken
  • Strong personality and leadership to mentor and manage the members of the team 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Offering clear solutions when translating concept art. 
  • Be aware of the latest technical developments in the industry that could benefit the environment's quality and production. 
  • Bridge level design and level art. Understand and make the necessary adjustments to our environment to match gameplay expectations. 
  • Following up on the production of your team with the help of the art director and producers. Organize their work depending on our priorities. Understand how your management choices impact the production workflow. 
  • Giving feedback on a daily basis and testing assets directly in the engine to guarantee the quality of our assets. 
  • Finding the right balance to help the artists grow in a friendly environment while still challenging their skills and making them deliver on time 
  • Raise your team’s skill level whether they are juniors or seniors. 
  • Manage, supply and feedback outsourced assets with the outsource manager, so that the production velocity is increased and outsourced assets incorporated to the project at an equal level of quality with in-house made assets.
